Finance Minister Still Calculating BDNI’s Debt

The Finance Minister is still calculating Bank Indonesia Liquidity Support’s (BLBI) remaining dues to the Indonesian Trade Bank (BDNI) belonging to Sjamsul Nursalim. Finance Minister Agus Martowardojo said the calculation will be completed this month so it can soon be submitted to the Attorney General’s Office (AGO).

“I have received the official request from the AGO and it is now being studied by the State Assets Directorate,” Agus said in Jakarta last week.

According to Agus, the Directorate is checking the receipt given to Sjamsul Nursalim to find out the real debt value. If the AGO presents new findings, he said, the Finance Ministry will use them as references.

According to the Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency (BPPN), Sjamsul Nursalim has BLBI arrears amounting to Rp 28,408 trillion. He reportedly paid Rp 1 trillion in cash and Rp 22,65 trillion through personal assets.

The Finance Minister said there are 20 other debtors with arrears in BLBI, 15 of which are liquidated banks. Meanwhile, the rest are debts held by the bank’s shareholders. “The BLBI debt totals Rp 23 trilion,” he said.
